AE - Annunciation Equipment - The software utilised by ARC operators to view and act upon alarm signals received.

ARC - Alarm Receiving Centre - A call centre where all alarm traffic is received an processed.

AS - Alarm System - The sum of components that make up a Fire or Intruder detection system

ATE - Alarm Transmission Equipment - The components of an AS that allow the transmission or signalling of events to a remote location (ARC)

ATP - Alarm Transmission Path - The network medium which is utilised by ATE to signal or communicate with a remote location e.g PSTN, ADSL, GPRS etc

ATS - Alarm Transmission System - The components that allow alarm conditions to be transmitted and received from the protected premises to the alarm receiving centre via single or multiple ATPs

ATSP - Alarm Transmission Service Provider - An organisation who provides a managed or supervised ATS, for example WebWayOne or BT RedCARE.

ADSL - Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line - Also known as Broadband.

PSTN - Public Switched Telephone Network - The analogue voice network
